Kainji Hydro Power Plants Rehabilitation
Following projects comes with the paid plans.
Development objective
The Kainji hydropower plant, which was established in 1968, has a total installed capacity of 760 MW. Over time, the production of hydro-electricity has been tampered by major breakdowns (including the decommissioning of Kainji Unit 5 in 2000), poor maintenance, and lack of replacement parts. The project consists in the rehabilitation of all the 8 units of the facility. This will result in a production increase of 262 MW to reach the installed capacity. Greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by supporting the production of hydro-electricity, which will have lower carbon intensity than off-grid diesel-fired reciprocating engines that are currently operating in Nigeria.
